The artist
Erwin Wurm was born on 27 July 1954 in Bruck an der Mur, Austria, and studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and the Academy of Fine Arts in Austria. He is a renowned contemporary artist known for his humorous and ironic sculptures. Wurm has worked in a variety of media including sculpture, photography, video and performance, and has explored the human body and its representation. Wurm says he is inspired by his love of everyday life and detail, and that everything around him is part of his creative process. His famous "One Minute Sculptures" became popular in the 1980s and brought him international fame.
