Marc Brandenburg
In his drawings, Marc Brandenburg deals with individual objects and situations from his everyday life, which he removes from their context and turns into negatives. Like a visual diary, he records situations, impressions and thoughts in drawings that do not depict a specific event, but rather show objects and people in great detail, often removed from their original context.
The artist
Marc Brandenburg is a German artist born in Berlin on 18 December 1965. He is known for his detailed drawings, which often refer to political and social issues.
Brandenburg studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin from 1986 to 1990. During his studies he focused on drawing and painting. He had his first exhibitions in Berlin and Munich in the 1990s.
In his works, Brandenburg often uses graphite and charcoal pencils to create realistic images. He often draws portraits of people, especially celebrities from the world of music, art and film. He pays great attention to the nuances of human physiognomy, concentrating on details such as wrinkles, shadows and light reflections.
WERK
The drawings are based on photographs taken by the artist, which he converts into negatives using a photocopier and image editing software, and then transfers to paper. In his drawings, films and installations since the 1990s, Marc Brandenburg has repeatedly explored the question of social norms, roles and cultural symbols of groups - especially people on the margins of society.
