Marc Brandenburg

Marc Brandenburg (born 1965) is a contemporary German artist, best known for his black-and-white drawings. Brandenburg’s works are characterised by their hyperrealistic detail and often unconventional perspective. His subjects draw from urban culture, frequently reflecting scenes from everyday life, pop culture, or Berlin’s club scene.

A distinctive feature of his work is the reversal of light and dark contrasts: he draws on white paper and inverts the lighting, making his pieces appear like photographic negatives.

In his drawings, Marc Brandenburg explores individual objects and situations from his daily life, isolating them from their context and inverting them into negatives. Through the intense, detailed, and often magnified depiction of these objects, the artist challenges the visual overload of images in our time. At the same time, Brandenburg’s drawings address societal issues, engaging with questions of identity and belonging.
